A few recurring events shape the city's calendar each year — worth knowing whether you want to time a visit around one, or avoid the busiest dates.
What is confirmed for the rest of 2026
Marrakech has a mix of fixed cultural events, trade and arts festivals, religious dates and one-off programmes. Do not assume an event returns on the same weekend every year. For late 2026, the official Marrakech tourism calendar is the best starting point because it publishes dates as organisers confirm them.
Planning for September–December 2026: Marrakech Folklore Days is listed for 22–25 October 2026, and the Marrakech Coffee & Tea Festival for 14–16 November 2026. Confirm again with the organiser before buying non-refundable travel around an event.
Marrakech Folklore Days — 22 to 25 October 2026
The official city tourism guide lists the International Festival of World Folklore for 22–25 October 2026. The programme brings international folk dance and music groups into the city, with performances and parades linked to public spaces including Jemaa el-Fna. If you are visiting at the same time, expect more activity around central event locations and allow extra time moving through the Medina.
Marrakech Coffee & Tea Festival — 14 to 16 November 2026
Visit Marrakech lists the 2026 Coffee & Tea Festival for 14–16 November at the Marrakech Exhibition Center. It is a specialist food-and-drink event rather than a citywide street festival, so it is more relevant if tastings, coffee culture and tea traditions are a genuine interest than if you simply want a lively weekend.
Marrakech International Film Festival
The film festival is one of Marrakech's best-known international events and traditionally creates a noticeable buzz around central hotels, cinemas and red-carpet venues. Dates and public-screening arrangements can vary, so check the festival's current programme for your year rather than booking from an old calendar. If your stay overlaps, book accommodation earlier, especially in Hivernage and the central Medina.
National Festival of Popular Arts
The 55th National Festival of Popular Arts ran from 2–6 July 2026, with performances celebrating Moroccan regional music, dance and oral traditions. That edition is already past, but the festival is worth knowing about when planning future summer trips because it is one of the city's strongest showcases of living Moroccan performance traditions. 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair
The 2026 Marrakech edition of 1-54 ran at La Mamounia from 5–8 February. It is primarily an art-market and gallery event, but it also draws collectors, artists and cultural travellers and can tighten high-end accommodation around its dates. Future editions are worth checking if contemporary African art is part of your reason for visiting.
Ramadan changes the city more than most festivals
Ramadan is not a tourist festival, but it affects daily rhythm far more broadly than most ticketed events. Islamic dates move through the Gregorian calendar and local observance follows the religious calendar, so confirm dates close to travel.
Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha
The two major Eid holidays are family-focused periods when some businesses reduce hours and domestic travel demand can increase. The practical issue for a visitor is not sightseeing “events” so much as transport, restaurant and shop availability. If an Eid falls during your trip, confirm any time-critical booking directly.
Marrakech Marathon and road closures
The annual marathon is a major sporting date for runners and can affect roads on race day. If you are coming specifically to run, use the organiser's current route, start-time and registration information. If you are not, the main planning task is simply to avoid scheduling a tight airport transfer through affected roads during the race window.
Events outside Marrakech that can still affect your trip
The Gnaoua World Music Festival is held in Essaouira, not Marrakech, but it can matter if you are combining the two cities. Festival weekends can make Essaouira accommodation much harder to secure. Treat it as an overnight-trip planning issue rather than a Marrakech event.
Should you choose your dates around an event?
Yes if the event is a genuine reason for the trip. Otherwise, treat it as one factor alongside weather, flight prices and accommodation. A major festival can add atmosphere but also reduce hotel choice. Travelling immediately before or after a big event can be a better compromise if you want a calmer city.

- Confirm venue and programme details again shortly before travel.
- For Ramadan and Eid, use current Morocco-based religious/calendar guidance rather than an old travel article.
