Flying to Marrakech
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is well served from Europe, particularly the UK, France, Spain and Germany, with budget carriers alongside national airlines. Long-haul direct routes are more limited, so many visitors from North America, Asia or Australia connect through a European or Gulf hub — commonly Paris, London, Madrid, Casablanca or Dubai.
Fares vary a lot by season. Shoulder-season months (spring and autumn — see our weather guide) combine good prices with the best weather. Peak periods around Christmas/New Year and European school holidays push prices up noticeably.
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK)
The airport is compact and close to the city — around 15 minutes from the Medina in normal traffic. It has one main terminal, ATMs, currency exchange, and prepaid SIM card counters after arrivals.
Getting from the airport into town
- Riad/hotel transfer. The simplest option, especially for a first visit — most riads can arrange a driver to meet you and navigate the final stretch into the Medina on foot or by handcart.
- Petit taxi. Available at the rank outside arrivals. Agree the fare before you set off; there's an official rate but it's often treated as a starting point for negotiation.
- Ride-hailing apps. Operate in Marrakech and tend to offer more predictable pricing than an unmetered taxi.
- Bus. A public bus line connects the airport to the city centre for a fraction of the taxi price, if you're travelling light and without a tight schedule.
Booking tips
If your riad is deep in the Medina, tell your driver or transfer service in advance — many will meet you at the nearest accessible drop-off point (rather than the airport) with a porter for the final walk, which saves confusion after a long flight.
