Le Jardin Secret
Two contrasting gardens hidden behind an unassuming Medina doorway — and one of the better rooftop views in the old city.
What it is
Le Jardin Secret occupies a restored 19th-century riad in the heart of the Medina, just a few minutes from Jemaa el-Fna. Rather than one garden, it's two, side by side: an "exotic" garden with plants from five continents, and a traditional Islamic garden divided into the classic four-quadrant layout, fed by a restored traditional irrigation system that predates the property itself.
Why it's worth it
Compared to the Majorelle Garden, this is quieter, smaller, and — for many visitors — a more peaceful experience precisely because it's less well known. The rooftop tower (an added ticket) gives one of the best views over the Medina's rooftops toward the Koutoubia, without needing to book a restaurant table to get up high.
Practical details
- Time needed: 30–45 minutes for the gardens, longer with the tower and a café stop.
- Location: Central Medina, an easy add-on to a souk walk.
- Best time: Late morning or mid-afternoon tends to be quieter than midday.
There's a small café inside — a genuinely pleasant place to pause mid-souk without leaving the Medina walls.
