The short answer: spring and autumn suit most visitors

For most first-time trips, March to May and late September to November give the easiest balance of warm days and comfortable sightseeing. Marrakech is inland, so summer heat can be severe while winter nights can feel surprisingly cold.

No climate table predicts your exact week. Morocco’s Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) publishes live forecasts and vigilance warnings; check those close to departure.

Spring: March to May

Spring is one of the strongest all-round periods. Days warm quickly, evenings are generally comfortable and long walking days in the Medina are easier than in midsummer. April and May can still produce hot spells, so averages are a planning baseline rather than a ceiling.

Summer: June to August

Summer is genuinely hot. DGM’s 2024 national climate report recorded an extreme of 47.6°C in Marrakech during July 2024. That was an extreme, not a normal daily temperature, but it shows why visitors should plan for heatwaves rather than rely only on monthly averages.

Put outdoor sights early in the morning, use the hottest afternoon hours for a pool, hammam, museum or long lunch, and return to the souks and rooftops later. Choose accommodation with reliable air-conditioning if you are sensitive to heat.

Autumn: September to November

September can still feel summery, then conditions usually ease through October and November. October is especially easy for mixed city and day-trip plans because evenings are often warm without the same midday heat pressure as July or August.

Winter: December to February

Winter days can be mild and sunny, but nights are much cooler. Traditional tiled riads can feel colder indoors than visitors expect. Pack a real evening layer and check whether your accommodation offers heating if that matters to you.

Heatwaves matter more than the average

DGM’s July 2026 heat reporting described parts of Morocco running 5–12°C above seasonal norms during a major hot spell. When a heatwave is active, change the day plan rather than trying to push through a fixed outdoor itinerary.

Rain and sudden weather

Marrakech is relatively dry, but rain still occurs and short heavy episodes can disrupt roads or outdoor plans. The wetter part of the year is broadly autumn through spring. Keep day-trip plans flexible when unsettled weather is forecast.

The Atlas Mountains are different

Do not use Marrakech city weather as a proxy for an Atlas Mountains excursion. Elevation changes temperature sharply, and winter snow or rapidly changing conditions can affect roads and walking routes. Check the forecast for the actual mountain destination and take an extra layer.

Ramadan and seasonal rhythm

Ramadan moves through the Gregorian calendar each year. Marrakech remains open to visitors, but some businesses adjust hours, traffic can become busy before sunset and evenings become more active after iftar. Check the actual dates for your travel year.

When is Marrakech cheapest?

Flight and accommodation prices respond to school holidays, events and heat, so there is no permanently cheapest month. The hottest part of summer may bring lower room rates at some properties, but the saving only makes sense if you are comfortable structuring the trip around severe heat.

Best time for sightseeing

Choose spring or autumn for long days walking between palaces, gardens, souks and neighbourhoods. Winter also works well if you prepare for cold evenings. Summer can still be enjoyable with a slower rhythm, reliable cooling and realistic expectations.

Best time for pools and rooftops

Late spring through early autumn gives the most dependable warm-weather atmosphere for pools and rooftop evenings. In winter, ask whether a pool is heated rather than assuming from photos.

What to pack by season

• Spring/autumn: breathable daytime clothes, comfortable shoes, sun protection and a light evening layer.
• Summer: loose clothing, strong sun protection, a refillable water bottle and reliable cooling.
• Winter: layers for mornings and evenings, plus a warmer layer for Atlas trips.
• Any season: modest options for religious or traditional settings and footwear suited to uneven Medina lanes.
